1. What is the your average "turnaround " time?
A. 3-4 weeks for remediation of small to moderate issues with color, finish, repair or cleaning. Color changes that include dyeing/repairing the lining will take longer, as of course extensive damage which will be discussed at time of estimate.
2. Do you dip garments in a vat of dye?
A. No, this is a common misconception. Both hardware and jacket linings are thoroughly protected while coloring by hand. If the lining is to be custom dyed...it requires both a different technique and a temperature that would destroy leather. The lining is removed, dyed and reinstalled by a senior tailor. Otherwise a new lining is made up in the desired color.
3. Can you waterproof leather garments?
A. In most instances, no. Only full grain hide...such as that found in both authentic flight and biker jackets...can withstand being fully waterproofed. the formulas currently used in waterproofing would not only affect the soft "hand" (feel), but could harm the finish and/or color of fine thin leathers. Most leather garments that leave our care have a protective cream hand-applied to the surface... both repelling and preventing liquids from penetrating deep into the leather. This helps minimize future stains and makes their removal easier. The protectant needs to be reapplied every 3 months or so if the item is frequently worn. We offer this product upon request after cleaning by us.
4. Does a dark stain on a light color jacket mean I'll have to dye it black or another dark color to wear it again?
A. In most cases... no! The white jacket on our portfolio page is a perfect example. There is absolutely no "ghost" of a stain visible and the finish was rebuilt without demarcation. It's as if it never happened. It's owner sent it to us expecting to dye it!
5. Do you do alterations?
A. We work with a top tier tailoring firm in New York City specializing in leather that we'd gladly refer you to. Otherwise, without a fitting in person with them we are limited to basics...such as hemming...that the customer has had marked/pinned prior to shipping to us . Most luxury boutiques outside NYC can refer someone qualified in your area .
